Reverend Susan McCann, Episcopal priest and social worker, is honored to serve the women and men of the KCPD. She received a Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas and a Master of Divinity Degree from the Seminary of the Southwest, in Austin, Texas. Prior to seminary she served for fourteen years as President and CEO of Marillac, a center providing psychiatric care for children and youth. She served as a chaplain at the former Bethany Hospital, Kansas City, KS, and St. David's Hospital, Austin, TX. Ordained to the priesthood in 1996, Reverend Susan served from 1996-2018 as Rector of Grace Episcopal Church. In 2018 she left the parish to devote her ministry to community issues, particularly racial justice, economic equity, predatory lending, and universal healthcare. She has served on a number of Boards of Directors and has received many awards for her social justice work. A native of New York City, once a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and Giants, she now cheers for the Royals and Chiefs. An avid fly-fisherwoman, Susan and her husband, John, love to escape to Colorado to fish the streams and hike the Rockies. They have a blended family of five children. One daughter-in-law is an officer with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Chaplain Bill Gorman's passion for police chaplaincy is rooted in his experiences growing up in a law enforcement family. His father served as police officer and detective in the St. Louis area for over 25 years. Bill is the Campus Pastor at Christ Community Church's Brookside Campus. After graduating with a BA in Advanced Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages from Calvary University, he completed a Masters of Divinity degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago. He joined the staff of Christ Community in 2008. Bill, his wife, and their three children live in the Brookside-Waldo area of Kansas City, MO.
John Modest Miles was born in Magnolia, Arkansas. He received his education from the following schools: New Hope High School, Mt. Holly, AR; Los Angeles Trade School, Los Angeles, CA; Highland Park College, Detroit, MI; Arkansas Baptist College (B.S. Degree), Little Rock, AR; Philander Smith College, Little Rock, AR; Quachita Baptist College, M. ED. Degree, Arkadelphia, AR; Central Mississippi College (D.D. Degree), Kosciusko, MS; Midwestern Theological Seminary, Kansas City, MO; and Western Baptist Bible College (Honorary D.D. Degree), Kansas City, MO. John Modest was licensed as a Minister in 1963 at Paradise Baptist Church in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 18. He was ordained at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Detroit, MI. He was the pastor of True Faith Baptist Church, Detroit MI for 4 years; Liberty Hill Baptist Church and Mount Sinai Baptist Church – both in Little Rock, AR for 16 years. He is currently serving as pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church, Kansas City, MO where he has been serving since April 5, 1987. He was also a teacher in the Little Rock Public School system, and an instructor at Arkansas Baptist College. He served as the Moderator of the New Era District Association, Kansas City, MO which includes 43 local churches for 12 years. He is a longtime friend of President Bill Clinton. He is married to Jeanette Richard Miles, and they have three children, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Pastor Shane Stamm feels blessed to be a Police Chaplain for KCPD. He served on the Kansas City Missouri Police Department as a Detention Facility Officer for two years, and then as a Police Officer for 19 years. God called him out of police work and into full-time ministry in 2013. He serves at Open Door Bible Baptist Church in the Northland. Pastor Stamm was born and spent his younger years in Alton, Illinois until moving to Kansas City at the age of 10. He grew up in the Historic Northeast area, graduating from Northeast High School in 1992. He's a huge Chicago Bears fan, loves riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, but most importantly spending time with his family. He is married to his high school sweetheart, a Retired KCPD Officer, and has three wonderful children. Pastor Stamm looks forward to spending time with the Police Department family and shares a favorite encouraging verse of scripture: Proverbs 21:15 When Justice is done, it brings Joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.
Pastor Jones serves as Pastor of the Highland Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2621 Benton Blvd in Kansas City. He has served as the 2nd Vice Moderator of the Fellowship District Association, President and 1st Vice President of the Metropolitan Kansas City Baptist Ministers Union, and Secretary of the Home Mission Board of the Progressive Baptist State Convention of the State of Missouri. Pastor Jones is working on his Doctoral Dissertation on Eschatological Theology from The Sure Foundation Theological Institute in Seminole, Florida. He is married to Deborah Townsend-Jones.
Father Andres Moreno is the Pastor of Saint Anthony Catholic Church in northeast Kansas City, and he is from Colombia South America; the oldest among one brother and one sister. Father was ordained May 23, 2015, has a bachelor degree in Philosophy and a Master in Divinity and Master of Theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary, and served as a Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of the Presentation in Lees Summit MO for two years, and became a pastor of Saint Anthony in 2017 until now and served as Police Chaplain since 2018.
Reverend Canon John McCann, an Episcopal priest, is honored to have the opportunity and privilege to serve as a Chaplain to the men and women of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. Chaplain McCann received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and a Master in Divinity from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Virginia. He pastored parishes in Springfield and Kansas City before serving for over twenty years as Canon (Assistant) to the Bishops of the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri. Chaplain McCann is currently serving on a part-time basis as Interim Rector of Christ Church, St. Joseph. Chaplain McCann is married to the Reverend Susan McCann who also serves as a KCPD Chaplain. Together they have five grown children. One of their daughters-in-law is an Officer on the Oklahoma City Police Department and a nephew is a Sergeant on the Fannin County, Texas Sheriff’s Department. Chaplain McCann has tremendous respect and admiration for the Officers of the KCPD who faithfully carry out the challenging work of serving and protecting the city of Kansas City. God Bless them all.
Chaplain Tony Johnson accepted his calling in 1992. He served as an associate pastor for several years and, since 2003, is the proud pastor of First Baptist Church in Liberty, Missouri. Pastor Johnson is active in the Baptist Convention, State of Missouri, and has served as President of Congress for the Mt. Zion District Association. He previously served as 3rd Vice President for Christian Education for the State of Missouri and Moderator for the Mt. Zion District Association. He is affiliated with the Ministers Alliance in Liberty, Missouri, and is a member of the Baptist Ministers Union in Kansas City. Pastor Johnson attended Carver Baptist Theological Bible Institute and Faith Baptist College. He received his Bachelor and Master Degree in Pastoral Theology. He became a chaplain for the Kansas City Missouri Police Department in 2022. He and his wife, Edna Patrice Johnson, have four children, two boys and two girls, and seven grandchildren.
Chaplain Jeremy Eubanks has been the Pastor of Northside Christian Church located at 5114 NW Old Pike Rd. Kansas City, MO 64118 since 2015. He has degrees in Secondary Education from Kansas State University, and Bible & Educational Ministries from Manhattan Christian College. He has served churches in the Kansas City area since 1998. He and his wife, Nicole, have been married for almost 30 years and have 2 daughters who are in college. Even though he grew up in rural Oklahoma, Kansas City has become home and he loves everything from the BBQ to Chiefs & Royals. He is thankful for the opportunity to support the officers of KCPD.
Chaplain Patrick Ireland was born in a small town in southeastern South Dakota. As a youth, he played sports, attended church, and enjoyed working on farms in the summer. Chaplain Ireland has a BS in General Studies from South Dakota State University and hold a Masters in Religious Education from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He is retired with over 20 years Active Duty in the Army as a Chaplain. He started as a Cannon Crewman (13B) in the South Dakota Army National Guard. Chaplain Ireland was deployed to Iraq twice and was been stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, Hawaii, New York, Maryland, Kansas, and Texas, and travelled to numerous other bases for training. He and his wife, Tanya have been married 26 years and are proud of their two daughters, Natalie and Lizzie. Chaplain Ireland enjoys gardening, sports events, the outdoors, working out, chess, grilling, talking to people, and tutoring math.
