Chief Graves and city leaders addressed the rising trend of domestic violence in Kansas City, which has resulted in 12 homicides this year, at a news conference held April 7 at police headquarters.
The 12 homicides attributed to domestic violence matches all of 2024’s total. Of note, not all of these homicides are intimate partner-related. Victims include children and grandparents.
If you need help, it is available. If you are concerned for someone who may be in a domestic violence situation, please speak up.

Last fall, KCPD created Domestic Violence Support Teams. These teams of officers seek and arrest DV suspects with active warrants, perform residence checks, and get survivors assistance more quickly.
