In recognition of saving a young woman's life, Chief Stacey Graves presented two East Patrol officers with a Chief's Coin at the start of a Board of Police Commissioners meeting on March 24.
On the afternoon of Feb. 15, Officers Manley and Hawley responded to a call for help at a lake near Pittman Rd. and E 43rd. They found two people in the water, with one deep in the lake, struggling for survival.
Manley and Hawley shed their gear and entered the water, rescuing a woman.
Manley has been with the department 26 years, while Hawley started her KCPD career four years ago.
The Chief's Coin recognizes exemplary efforts.
