Requirements & Qualifications:

To successfully perform the essential functions of the position, the incumbent is required to possess a Bachelor’s degree and at least 3+ years of experience in Social Service (case management, special populations, corrections, court, and/or law enforcement).

Excellent communication and public interaction skills are necessary in this position.

Must have a valid state driver’s license.

Incumbent will be required to complete post offer, pre-employment testing per Department Policy.

Physical Requirements:

Position occasionally requires light lifting (5 to 20 pounds), visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer, telephone and office equipment.

Job Location: 

The Division Social Service Specialist works in the field and at their assigned Patrol Division station. Job locations are dependent upon the referrals and requests from officers.

Job Description

  • Receive and respond to service referrals from KCPD officers.     
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive or confidential information at all times.
  • Accompany officers in patrol vehicles on residence checks and
  • Quickly assess and recommend appropriate interventions available within the community.
  • Provide education and navigations of service programs for participants.
  • Attend weekly division crime meetings with other units and command staff.
  • Attend meetings in the community as needed to build and maintain resource networks for referrals.
  • Document daily activities in the Social Service Program’s online data tracker.
  • Function autonomously within assigned Patrol Divisions on a number of daily tasks.
  • Utilize effective time management skills to accomplish a variety of tasks.
  • Collaborate with other Social Service Program team members to accomplish tasks that affect multiple Patrol Divisions.
  • Report referrals received by patrol officers to designated division staff
  • Must be reliable and maintain good attendance. Must have the ability to work flexible hours, be on-call and work overtime when necessary, to provide support to all Patrol Division watch assignments.
  • Perform related duties as required.
